A kitchen renovation can be quite the hassle. After all, you’re likely renovating to not just change the style, but also change a kitchen’s convenience and functionality. If a project like this is becoming overwhelming and you’re in need of some helpful tips to bring you back on track, check out the information we here at Andre Kitchen and Bath have offered below.
Bar Stool Change-Up
While kitchen islands can look beautiful on their own/with pendant lighting, one of the best ways to really spice up a kitchen’s design is by choosing the right bar stools for your island. These extra details may seem insignificant or small, but they actually end up having a pretty drastic effect on how your kitchen looks. While choosing the right barstool style is important, be sure to choose one based on how it will be used as well. If it will be used for short term use, you can usually get away with ordering ones with no real support. If they are going to be used to lounge, always make sure to get stools with at least a little bit of back support. Bars where you can rest your feet help maximize comfort as well.
Consider Pendant Lighting
One of the best ways to add style and light to your kitchen island is by installing pendant lighting. These fixtures come in a bunch of different styles, colours, sizes and patterns, and end up adding a unique beauty to almost any kitchen it’s installed in. While this feature is beneficial for most kitchens, kitchens with higher ceilings may not suit this type of lighting fixture. When in doubt, always talk with your contractor about the potential of this installation and whether or not it’s the right fit for your space.
Proper Microwave Placement
This may initially sound like an odd one, but a microwave is one of the few appliances that is mounted in a cubby/shelf rather than placed on the counter. While you can still place it on the counter, lots of people will choose to free up that counter space and mount it instead. Since this will be an appliance that you will want to have access to, you have to be certain that it is not installed too high or too low. Too high and you are unable to reach it; too low and it becomes inconvenient and troublesome fast.
As a general rule, try installing your microwave anywhere from 45-55 inches off the floor. This will make for an easy to access appliance, all while saving counter space at the same time.
