Bathroom Tips To Prevent Mould

Out of all the rooms in the home, the bathroom is usually at the highest risk of collecting mold, following basements. Generally, the more a room is likely to collect and hold onto moisture, the more likely it is to grow mold.

The good news is that there are ways to prevent this growth. If you’re curious about how to prevent mold in a bathroom, check out the advice we here at Andre Kitchen and Bath have come up with below.

Have Lots of Hangers

One of the easiest ways to grow mold inside a bathroom is by not letting things like towels and robes dry effectively. When these things get left on the floor, the air is not circulating through them properly to get them dry quickly enough. Because of this, moisture will retain in these towels and spread onto the floors and walls of your bathroom, increasing the chances of mold. To prevent this, always make sure that you have hangers in your bathroom to put your towels and robes on. This way, the fabrics will be suspended in mid air, encouraging a more even flow of air to effectively dry them out.

Fans, Fans and More Fans!

One of the quickest ways a bathroom can develop mold is by having no proper air flow. When someone takes a shower, both the moisture from the showerhead itself and the condensation produced from the heat will create small patches of moisture that cover the entirety of the bathroom. These patches of moisture will remain until dried effectively, and one of the only great ways to dry this moisture is by utilizing fans. Make sure all of your vents are uncovered and your fans are working properly, and always be sure to turn them on after you’ve taken a shower/bath.

Keep an Eye On Your Grout

Whether it’s the grout on your floors or on your shower walls, this area of the bathroom should be closely monitored from time to time. Since the grout on tile is much more compact in size, it is very easy for moisture to get stuck in between these cracks. If you leave them without cleaning them for long enough, you may notice dark spots beginning to appear on the grout. This is likely mold.

To prevent this from happening in the future, always try and clean your bathroom grout at least once every few months. This can be as simple as using a toothbrush/baking soda + vinegar mixture to clean these areas thoroughly.
